Provider Partners Health Plan’s board of directors is comprised of experienced leaders with diverse skill sets that are highly committed to ensuring the highest quality long-term care for their members and providers.

Scott Rifkin, MD, Chairman

A recognized entrepreneur and innovator in healthcare, Scott Rifkin, MD, has more than 25 years of experience as a physician and healthcare executive. In addition to founding and serving as the Chairman of Provider Partners Health Care, he is the founder and managing partner of Mid-Atlantic Health Care (MAHC), a modern post-acute care company that owns and manages one of the largest nursing home chains in the region.

Dr. Rifkin also founded Real Time Medical Systems, a cutting edge provider of medical data mining software, and Five Star Physicians, which provides high quality healthcare providers to skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Rifkin is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and George Washington University School of Medicine.

Nelson Sabatini

Nelson Sabatini is a widely recognized leader in both the Maryland and federal healthcare arenas. He served as the State of Maryland’s Secretary for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene under two separate administrations. In the federal arena, Nelson served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Social Security Administration. In addition, he held several executive positions at the Department of Health and Human Services, where he participated in the creation of the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Nelson also was Executive Vice President of the University of Maryland Medical Systems. Widely recognized in the healthcare industry, he has experience with Medicare Special Needs Plans as the President of XLHealth’s Care Improvement Plan and was a consultant on the CVS Minute Clinic initiative in its early stages.

Bruce R. (“Rick”) Grindrod, Jr.

As the President and CEO of PPHP, Rick leads the company’s overall business strategy, creating strategic relationships between hospitals, long-term care providers and physicians to provide high quality care to some of the most vulnerable Medicare patients.

Rick has 29 years of experience managing all aspects of the operations and marketing of senior living and health care facilities. He began his career in 1985 with Erickson Retirement Communities, which grew to be a $1.5 billion management and development company. His positions with Erickson included serving as President of its Health & Operations Division and as CEO of the company. Under his leadership, Erickson’s 11,000 employees served 23,000 residents at 19 communities in 10 states.

While growing the operation’s organization to include Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Home Health Care, Home Support Care, Rick also led the Erickson Health Medical Group physicians practice and managed the highly successful Erickson Medicare Advantage Health Plan. Additionally, Rick led the creation of the Erickson Way culture, staff development and HR practices that resulted in Erickson being recognized nationally as a Fortune Magazine Top 100 Employer in 2008 and 2009. Rick holds an MBA in Finance from Loyola University Maryland and a B.S. from Bucknell University.

Scott Potter

Scott Potter is Secretary/Treasurer of PPHP and the CFO of Mid-Atlantic Health Care. As Mid-Atlantic’s CFO, he created a management company that grew from initially overseeing the operations of two nursing homes to oversight for more than 17 long-term care facilities. In this role, he was responsible for all financial matters of the management company, long term care facilities and associated real estate entities.

Prior to joining Mid-Atlantic in 2005, Scott worked as Director of Financial Services at Ruxton Healthcare and at Lorien Health Systems as Chief Financial Officer, where he oversaw the finances of seven nursing homes/assisted living facilities. His previous positions include working as an Audit Supervisor at KPMG and as an Audit Manager at the Resnick Group. A CPA, Scott holds a B.S. degree from Towson University.
